MK3 Hockey Stick Reviewed by hockEdeals

A little while ago, we got an email from a hockey stick manufacturing company located in Michigan. One of our team members called them up and found out that they had developed a new brand of hockey stick. They called themselves MK³ and sent us a few samples to try.

The hockEdeals team is no stranger to ice hockey equipment and since most of us play the game, we traded the stick around. It's a pretty light stick at 470g. It is easy to handle, but stiff enough to get off a quick shot. The stick also has a nice grip coating surrounding the frame of the shaft. That is my personal favorite feature of the product. The MK³ stick is 100% Carbon Fiber, 60 inches long (with plastic cap), with a 5.5 Lie. It has a 3:1 Shaft/Blade Weight Ratio and multiple flexes: 105, 95, 85.

I received my stick from MK³ over 6 months ago and it's still holding up. It's also a nice breakaway from the Easton and CCMs of the world. MK³ has a solid simple design because they don't have to worry about being attractive on the shelf. From what I've gotten from talking to them, they say the product stands for itself. "We believe you're really going to like it," one of them said before he mailed us the samples. And that's something you don't hear many companies saying.

We’ve also added “Used Hockey Equipment” at the bottom of each page, specific to that type of hockey equipment.

Find Prices on Youth Junior JR Hockey Equipment

The reason hockEdeals.com doesn’t do Junior hockey equipment is because our online system is not yet automated. We have features that we have developed that check to see if the prices are accurate, but it’s a manual process to enter each piece of hockey equipment.Most of our equipment in the database is consistently priced with the youth line. If the senior hockey equipment is 10% cheaper than the other sites, chances are pretty good that the junior prices follow the same guideline.

It’s easy to get to the junior equipment once you’ve found the senior price on hockEdeals.com. Jump over to the outlet with the lowest price and do a quick search for the name of the hockey equipment product + “Jr”. It’s should pull up all the junior gear.

Best Manufacturer of Hockey Equipment

Hockey manufacturers such as Easton, Nike Bauer, CCM, and Mission, to name a few, sell the whole line of hockey equipment. You can get your Reebok skates, gloves, elbow pads, shoulder pads, and helmet all for Reebok. But is that really the best choice? Should you go with one manufacturer or mix and match?

Even if you’re not a professional who has sponsorship for a particular hockey equipment maker, you probably have your own brand loyalty. I grew up with Bauer 1000 skates, then Bauer Externo 60 skates, and I just got a pair of Bauer Vapor SFL VIII skates. The boot always fit perfectly and I never had any problem breaking them in. But do I want to trust Bauer to make my hockey stick, helmet, and pants?

Cheap Hockey Equipment

If you grew up playing hockey you know that those shiny nice new $300 skates are going to get scratched up after a few games and worn down after a few seasons, but it’s a loss you’re willing to take. But what if you were new to the game and didn’t want to fork up the dough for a sport you don’t yet love?

If getting hockey equipment cheap is you’re number one goal we have a few places to look.

Some players replace equipment all the time. Even when it is still usable. Check with your buddies if they have a few extra sticks, skates, or gloves lying around. Chances are they’re pretty worn, but hey, they’re free.
Play It Again Sports is a great store located all over the US. They buy and sell used hockey equipment in their outlet stores and take a small piece of the action. Definately worth to checkout. They are usually pretty helpful and offer a fair price. Click here to find a store.
Online. Of course, you’re here online already and this is where you want to shop. You always want the best price but those new Bauer Vapor XXXX Skates aren’t in your range. We suggest you look for older years of the same product. Getting a 2005 or 2006 skate is a dramatic price change for practically the same boot. Summit Online and Hockey Giant are usually pretty good about putting dates on their gear. EPuck is usually all new equipment. Just keep that in mind.

Why Do I Have to Call For Price When Shopping Online

When we first built hockEdeals.com this question really bugged us. We wanted to display the best price on the newest and most popular hockey equipment but everywhere we looked online said “Call for Price.” So, we solved the problem by calling up the online store asking them the price and posting it for our visitors. We thought, “Great! We skipped a step for hockey players and they can now see the actual price.” Big no no.

By doing this we were violating the terms between the online hockey store and the manufacturer (ccm, nike bauer, mission, easton etc.). Don’t blame the online hockey stores! The online outlets know they would probably sell more equipment if shoppers could see the price instantly and compare but they are on a tight leash. The hockey manufacturers need to regulate prices and they do this by preventing shops from displaying the content.

Some online stores such as IceWareHouse.com have developed a solution for this. I think it’s fair to say that most people who shop online value the privacy it offers and the detachment of human contact. You can jump online, throw your credit card number into a form and your equipment shows up on your doorstep. Instead of calling IceWarehouse.com has created a “Enter your email for instant prices.” This is useful because although it is one more step, it still allows you to get the price more privately. To avoid shamelessly promoting IceWareHouse.com, many other online hockey stores have adopted this technique. A few more, HockeyGiant.com, HockeyMonkey.com.

Actually as I’m writing this article I’m thinking that it might be useful for hockEdeals.com to have a form on the equipment details page that submits those email features on each online hockey store and delivers the prices to your inbox. Hockey Equipment Checklist

Do you have all the right gear? Adult hockey leagues tend to be more lenient about some of the rules and you can get away with keeping those shoulder pads in your bag but if you’re in a full check league, safety must come first.

The trend has always been the less equipment the “cooler” you are but your dentist would probably cringe to know that you’re not wearing that facemask. Here is a complete list of hockey equipment, feel free to avoid those items that are reserved for the safe hockey players.
